Nottinghamshire Deaf Society (NDS), a charitable organization, providing services and support to people affected by hearing loss, approached us to help them transform their corporate branding to better reflect their business mission - to continue to provide vital support to the local deaf community, and create a society in which all deaf people can fully participate.
They wanted an agency partner who would work with them strategically and creatively to create a new visual identity for the charity and design creative concepts that would be suitable for online and offline publication covering awareness and fundraising.
We wanted to highlight the impact of hearing loss in the lives of the people who live with this disability. We thought about how to convey this to a wider audience to generate awareness and influence a change in attitude and re-examine their perception of hearing loss. The branding and campaign that we’d been tasked to develop needed to demonstrate the impact of hearing loss, and how as a charity, NDS is the primary support system for its users.
A key element to this was also focusing on how the charity provides training in British Sign Language (BSL) as this was a vital support function and income generation for the charity.
By working in close partnership with the charity, we developed a distinctive visual identity based on a natural progression, using the charity’s existing colour palette to represent diversity and transforming existing logo elements into soundwaves surrounding an “invisible” individual to represent a hidden community.
We also developed a series of assets as part of NDS’s awareness campaign to highlight the impact that deafness has on the individual. The strapline ‘Be Seen and Heard’ was created to reflect the importance of recognising the views and opinions of individuals living with hearing loss. This was the foundation for creating a highly impactful campaign, which was then rolled out across social media and their corporate website.
As a result of meeting the brief, NDS extended their requirements and enlisted us to help with an exclusive charity launch event and support them in PR activities. As part of this support, we created a monogram logo that was used across all of their social channels, developed animations and assets for their social media campaign as well as designing pull up banners for an informative and eye-catching backdrop at their launch event.
